How Sally regained security and warmth in her home

At the Joseph Toomey Charitable Foundation, we understand that a safe, energy-efficient home can make a world of difference to someone's daily life.

The Situation

Referred to us by Citizens Advice Chelmsford, Sally was struggling with an outdated heating system, draughty doors, and windows that no longer offered adequate insulation. These issues not only made the home uncomfortable throughout the year but also placed added strain on the resident's finances and overall wellbeing.

"Sally now lives in a home that feels safe, comfortable and cared for"

The Impact

Through our shared efforts, Sally now lives in a home that feels safe, comfortable, and cared for. They're better protected against the cold, experiencing lower energy costs, and can take greater pride in their surroundings.

Our Response

  • Boiler Replacement: The existing boiler, no longer functioning effectively due to age, was replaced with a modern, energy-efficient model. This ensured the resident could rely on consistent heating and hot water throughout the year.
  • Localised Pipework and New Radiator Valves: We made targeted upgrades to radiators and valves, improving the heating system's performance and control while minimising disruption.
  • New Windows Throughout the Property: All existing windows were replaced with high-quality, energy-efficient units, providing better insulation and helping to maintain a more stable indoor temperature.
  • Rear Door Upgrade: The old rear French doors were replaced with secure, double-glazed French opening doors. These not only added to the comfort and warmth of the home but also brought in more natural light and connected the home beautifully with its outdoor space.
