Bringing Warmth and Wellbeing Back to Ethel's Home

At the Joseph Toomey Charitable Foundation, we understand that a safe, warm home is the foundation for a better quality of life.

The Situation

Ethel was referred to us through the Citizens Advice Bureau, who had been helping them navigate a number of challenges at home. Their boiler was no longer reliable, parts of the house remained cold, and existing patio doors were allowing cold air in, making day-to-day life uncomfortable and at times, overwhelming. We worked together to assess the home and agree on a tailored plan to conduct repairs to ensure the warmth and safety of the resident.

"These changes…provide the stability needed for someone to feel truly at home again"

The Impact

Together with Citizens Advice Bureau, we were proud to give Ethel more than just a home upgrade, we helped restore a sense of ownership, security, and ease. These changes mean more than physical improvements; they provide the stability needed for someone to feel truly at home again.

Our Response

  • New Boiler Installation: We replaced the old, inefficient boiler with a modern, reliable system, complete with all required pipework. This change has made a significant impact on comfort and peace of mind.
  • Radiator Improvements: The lounge area and bathroom each received upgraded radiators, while we retained and enhanced several existing ones by fitting new energy-efficient valves.
  • Patio Door Replacement: The old, draughty doors were replaced with beautiful, double-glazed French-style patio doors. Not only do they keep the heat in—they add a touch of brightness to the home with increased natural light and a clear view to the outside.
